Coaching rugby and my boys

Last Sunday, BRC guys assigned me to assist in coaching the kids. I was assigned to the Under eights and under 10s. Both of my boys are playing in the under 10s.

Ian and I was suppose to conducted training tackling session for the new boys. That's easy, I thought to my self and I was in for a surprise.

I took 3 boys with me and started to teach them the front on tackle. They manage to do it though it took for a while before I can get their attention. I realized that it is very difficult to teach the under 8s, as their mind keeps wondering all the time. They won't stay focus for long.

When it came to teach them to run in a running line, it is much harder. Just imagine 12 kids wanting to do different things at the same time. Also they have different understanding of each instructions given to them.

Aiman and Imran has improved a lot since the first started playing. Aiman now are able to run through tackles, off load in the tackle and tackle. Last week he scored two tries and did most of the tackling for his side. Imran has improved his concentration, now able to run properly with ball, without loosing it. Though he gets bump easily due to his size. Imran now is much more lively maybe due to a new eating habit. Previously he only eats when he wants to and most of the time he does not eat. Now I make sure he is eating properly and I can see the difference.
