Duit Salam aka salam kaut

usually when we go to a wedding receptions, gift are given to the newly weds.. the dilema that usually come whe buying a gift for the newly weds is.. what to buy...? the usually items are pots and pans, cutlery, electtic iron, toasters, cup and saucers... these are the favourites items.. thoug some would just pack in some $$$ in an envoloped and let the newly weds decides. this what is known as duit salam...

it is an un written rule that the duit salam is passed to the bride or bride grooms's family... as to part to cover cost of organizing the receptions.. of course the bigger the reception the more $$$ is pack in the envoloped.

personally i think this is not right, why should the parents get the dough, it should go to the newly weds as they are the one who is starting a new life. The receptions is done to honour or to inform or to celebrate the occassions.. if the cost is expensive.. it should be done conservatively and not lavishly.. and hope to cover the expenses via the duit salam.. it defeats the whole purpose...

I told june, should we hold a receptions for any of our kids.... to remind me about this... never ever do this.....
